I'm not sure if this is a debut author (I only see one book on her author page), but it is NOT written like a first time author! The storytelling is captivating, I loved the main characters, and I wasn't pulled out of the story with corny dialogue, bad writing, repetitive narrative or cheesy scenes. The story pulled me in from the AMAZING first chapter and kept my interest throughout. I couldn't put it down, and I finished it in one sitting!

The story wasn't predictable, and I was pleasantly surprised at how things panned out for the characters. I will definitely pick up the companion books that the happy ending alluded to.

Five stars of pure goodness. This was a richly written story that deftly handled the passages requiring a return to the past, and had adventure and excitement on every level, past and present. I adored the characters, but most especially Lauren and Simon. They were destined for each other. Ms. Bahr is definitely an author to be watched. I know I'll be waiting impatiently for her next one.
This story pushed a lot of emotional buttons for me! The characters and plot were well developed and had a lot of unsuspecting twists, but the best part was the triumph of good over evil! Well done C.J. Bahrain!
If you're looking for a book that's entertaining, has great characters, a compelling romance and paints a vivid picture of Scotland then I highly recommend "Walking Through Fire"! I was hooked from the first moment Laurel meets Simon and was so riveted by their doomed romance I had to force myself not to just skim through the book to get to the end. It was well worth the effort; from the comical ghost hunting scene to the tragic events of Simon's past, this book is one satisfying plot twist after another.
This book had me on pins and needles nearly throughout the book. What an excellent ending. Wow! (No cliff hanger)
A fast-moving, attention-grabbing book, Walking Through Fire is a brilliant debut novel that didn't let me stop, even for a moment. The author's 'voice' has a uniqueness and confidence exciting in a first novel, and the characters feel vividly human. It almost instantly caught me up in the story, and the pace moved along quickly enough that I never found a moment to take a break from reading.

Between the entirely relatable main characters, and just enough attention to environmental detail, I felt immersed and connected. By the time I was halfway through, I felt a vested interest in seeing things turn out for the best; I celebrated and mourned right along with people in the story. By the end, I felt as if I'd been part of the story all along, that I was present for the events, rather than reading them in words.
CJ Bahr appears to be a new author but you could not tell that by this book. The story pulled me in from the beginning and kept me there until the end. Treasure hunting, ghost hunters, angels, mystery, romance...What’s not to like?
The story moved along well without drags. The characters were likeable and I even found myself tearing up a few times with what happened/was happening to them. The plot was intriguing with some twists I didn’t see coming at all.
This book ends with a hint that more books may follow. I hope that is true as I will definitely get them.
Please note that writing is not my strong suit hence the short review. I am more of a reader ;)
It's finally here. It is no secret that CJ Bahr and I are in a writers support group. This was her 2nd book she wrote in our "club" and we all said "this will sell...its soooo good." I am pleased to review, critique and publize how wonderful this book has evolved. Her characters are rich, her research is impeccable, the romance is steamy, and the read is fast and hard to put down. Although there are some twists where we all screamed at the author, ("say what???") CJ has stuck true to her writing and delivered a fun and truly scrumcious read. Perfect for a raining weekend with a fire and a cup of tea. I am so proud of you CJ...and hope to see Simon return again and again for eternity. (I mean really...a hot ghost riding horseback through Scotland...what's not to love?) Bring on a lithe figure, wearing tight breeches, anytime. Awesome!
