Beautiful Book, well written & nice pictures. I would have loved more info in training them, but this is a good beginners book. Nice idea for a gift for someone who just got an Aussie!

I bought this dog to learn more about dogs. Turns out, my puppy is descended from the Las Roscosa Aussies, and so I got the added treat of seeing his line. This book is just full of information, explaining the difference between Aussies and other dogs - even other herding dogs. I highly recommend this book.
Not exactly what I hoped for, but not at all bad. There are a lot of dog basics in here - so in my mind this is a true novice's book. Helpful, yes - but I had hoped for more breed specific information and half of this book is on canine care.
It's a general survey of dogs with some Aussie/herding things in it. I was hoping for an in depth coverage of Aussies in particular. I also didn't like the way they sometimes train - pushing a dog down into a sit or down position, for example. Cookies and persuasion work a lot better and faster.
All About Aussies is a very comprehensive book. My breeder insisted that I purchase the book before I brought my Mini Aussie home. At first it was very overwhelming, what did I need to know about genetic mutations, and I knew that I would never breed my puppy. However there were some great tips on raising my Aussie and the time line to introduce certain things to the puppy was invaluable. Now that I have had my Aussie for a couple of years, I find that I still refer to the book. It is really packed with useful knowledge and it takes your dogs lifetime to learn everything you will need to know to raise a happy dog.
If you are looking to get an Aussie or already have an Aussie this is a must read!
This is a very informative book about the Australian Shepherd breed. I bred "Aussies" for 20+ years and I still enjoy reading the history, etc. The author is very knowledgeable about the breed and livestock. The author is, however, very biased toward the stock dogs and "working lines" as opposed to any of the other lines (show, performance, etc.) even though pretty much all Aussies have some stock working abilities. She definitely talks up the Las Rocosa line (her family's dogs) and their descendants much more than any of the other lines. While this is understandable because of her knowledge of these dogs, if you are going to write all about a breed, then you need to cover more than just a certain line of dogs. There are many great dogs in the breed that are not related to the Las Rocosa dogs. Still, definitely a worthwhile purchase to learn about the breed.
